Burn or Not Too Burn Is the Question? by MinNefer "Mjayi" Mernahkem

Updated: May 8

If you're like me, you've shaved and experienced razor burn, razor bumps, ingrown hairs and skin irritation.

Man it sucks and can give you the blues!

At Intrinsic Shaving we get question after question about how to get rid of razor bumps and other skin irritations and what can I do to prevent the razor issues?

This is why the Shave Revolution has begun as an assault on the disposable razor market and industry.

We at Intrinsic Shaving conducted a little field research of our own.

Why men are ready to stop using disposable razors and what causes the issues of razor burn, razor bumps and other skin irritations.

The guys we spoke with spoke loud and clear. Here is a sampling of what they said.

Nearly 25% of the guys said they don't get a close shave with disposable razors.

Almost 70% said they experience ingrown hair as a result of shaving.

Almost 90% said they experience some type of skin irritation after or raor bumps after shaving.

Over half said they still experience the old skin nicks and cuts.

Over a third said they experience severe or moderate razor bumps.

Almost half said they get razor burn at least weekly.

A tenth said they still can't get proper grip of the disposable razor handle

We were actually NOT surprised by what the research revealed – men have a pretty low opinion about disposable razors and the impact on their skin so perhaps it is time... Let the Shave Revolution begin!

Since nearly all of the guys complained about some form of skin problem due to shaving with disposable razors, perhaps it's time to change the problem! Perhaps a different razor?

Perhaps a different shaving cream? Perhaps a different technique for caring for men's skin? Here are a few suggestions...

Use an old school safety razor – better known as 'butterfly razor'. It uses only one premium blade versus multiple cheap blades.

Use non-alcohol based shaving cream. Alcohol is a serious skin irritant when shaving, whether used before, during or after!

Use less pressure and power when you shave! If you use a premium blade, You don't have to work so hard and use so much pressure.

ALL HAIL THE BUTTERFLY RAZOR!

You can never out-perform your knowledge! That goes for shaving and butterfly razors too. Why not join the shaving revolution and treat your skin with kindness and respect!

For more refined mustache and goatee facial hair Intrinsic Shaving recommends the "BUTTERFLY razor.

The benefits of making the switch to either of these razors will be immediate and ever-lasting to your face.

In both razors there is only a single blade. The one blade severely diminishes the chance of ingrown hairs, razor bumps, razor burn and razor irritation. No chances of re-depositing and infecting your skin with 2, 3, or more blades.

Remember the multiple blades (usually made of aluminum or tin) actually cut the hair below the skin, causing bacteria growth underneath the skin creating the basis of most men skin problems. If you don't clean the BLADES after every shave, you run the re-infection risk. The question is in disposables "can you get to the BLADE to get it clean?

The Butterfly razor design allows you to better control the closeness of the shave by requiring LESS PRESSURE! In fact, dermatologists recommend one-bladed razors for exactly this reason.

Butterfly razors are usually sold separately from the blades. For example, you can buy 30 blades from Intrinsic Shaving for only $20 bucks versus spending $40-$50 bucks for 10 disposable razor blade combinations. Interested in saving money?

Intrinsic Shaving offers the razors and blades separately or in a bundled kit. The most expensive shaving kit ($134.99) includes the premium platinum razor, razor holder, premium blades, shaving cream, after shave, beard balm, microfiber towel. Similar kits at retail stores like The Art of Shaving will set you back $330 bucks or more. For that amount you could buy three of our kits and have money left over and buy 120 of our blades, can you see the savings?

CHANGE YOUR SHAVING CREAM!

All of us, men and women, use some type of shaving cream or shaving soap. We've been conditioned by media and perhaps even in our homes that some type of cream is needed to lift the hair from the surface and protect the skin.

HOWEVER, most men's shaving creams, especially in pressurized cans, contain alcohol and salt among a long list of other unpronounceable harsh chemicals that burn, irritate, dry and wreak havoc on your face.

None of it is good for your skin – but it does make the product last longer on the store shelves!

At Intrinsic Shaving we don't make traditional shave creams or shaving soap. We make Zen shaving cream made with natural ingredients that help protect the skin.

This is real shaving cream that helps to eliminate all of the shaving issues mentioned in the survey above. Does anyone see a problem with harsh chemicals on your skin just to extend the shelf life of a product and increase the profits of manufacturers like Gillette?

CHANGE YOUR AFTER SHAVE PRODUCTS!

In short, use of inferior shaving products dry the skin, causing you to use alcohol based after shave products to close the pores - one painful mistake, after another.

For an added bonus, you may get the privilege of burning the blue blazes out of your skin and causing even more skin irritation! If you're lucky, you might even smell good when the burn finally dissipates.

You would be better off pouring vodka on your face! OK...We do NOT recommend pouring vodka on your face as aftershave, but we hope you get the point!

Store bought after shaves are not worth the value of your skin.

Intrinsic Shaving makes an aftershave called Zen Aftershave. Made with natural moisturizing ingredients, Zen Aftershave protects the skin by gently closing the pores and leaving the skin soft and moisturized.

Now let's dig deeper into the ingredients in canned shaving foam. Whether white foam or colored gel stuff, the first few ingredients are, wait for wait for it... Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES), Parabens, Fragrance, and Triethanolamine.

Looking at these ingredients, (let alone trying to pronounce them properly) gives me a headache and makes me feel not so smart.

For years, companies like 'They Who Shall Not Be Named' have been pulling the wool over our eyes with fancy commercials, and huge advertising / marketing budgets, to fool us into believing the hype about their products. Shaving foam and shaving gel is not all it's cracked up to be.

Protect your face my friends. Knowledge is half the battle - arm yourself in the shaving revolution battle!

MUST I BE RICH JUST TO SHAVE?

Have you been to the store lately and looked at the prices of razors? OMG is all I can say! And that company, They Who Shall Not Be Named', now use the Art of Shaving retail stores to pass off a shaving cocktail of chemicals combined as the premier shaving products for men.

The last time I checked that store, at least one of their shaving kits will set you back at least $330 dollars! At Intrinsic Shaving, will cost you about $134.99 plus shipping. Wouldn't you prefer to keep the extra $165.01 in your pocket?

Another issue... In the natural shaving market, some companies have added minute traces of shea butter, coconut oil, or vitamin E and then call it natural.

Unfortunately, shea butter and coconut oil have become the new hip ingredients to add to your products to pass them off as natural. Definitely NOT cool!

Why not buy from a small brand that is all about helping you look your best, without damaging your skin and breaking your pockets.
